Probably one of my biggest challenges! Instead of pouring a concrete base, the boulders are supported on existing telegraph poles in the ground in order to improve the sustainability of the project. A feat of surveying and engineering!  In order to achieve the same feeling of indoor climbing we decided to use plywood surface, and that meant researching and specifying materials and construction that would be long lasting in the British climate. This project has been so successful that in 2022 one boulder was extended and the final old fiberglass boulder replaced.
